Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Expand Their Charitable Foundation - SendMeRSS
Since launching the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation together in December, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have made great strides toward supporting international non-profit organizations in the areas of health care, education and human rights. Now, according to the PEOPLE, the couple is expanding their philanthropic reach, launching a new leg of the foundation dedicated to helping mothers in need.
Signing up through the social service agencies, families in need will create a "wishlist" of basic baby items they need, such as blankets, cribs, and strollers. Those interested in helping can "shop" each family's registry, choosing what they'd like to donate -- much like a wedding or baby registry. The idea is that in lieu of giving monetary donations, those willing to help will instead anonymously purchase items to be sent directly to the women in need. Nicole tells PEOPLE,
We take for granted the basic necessities. For some families, it's a serious struggle. This is one way to ease the financial burden, and help new babies have a good start in life. We are only working with companies and products that Joel and I would use. We're checking every product out for safety – and all products are BPA-free.
Nicole and Joel started their organization prior to the birth of their daughter Harlow Winter Kate, now seven months old. The registry website will be up and running soon, serving New York and Los Angeles initially, then expanding.
